About the Role: Backend Development Engineer (Remote Internship / Full-Time)
As a Backend Development Engineer at Acowale, you’ll be part of the engineering team responsible for designing and implementing scalable, high-performance backend systems using TypeScript, Bun, Node.js, and PostgreSQL.
You will contribute to building APIs, optimizing databases, designing system architecture, and implementing CI/CD pipelines to ensure smooth and reliable product delivery.
This role is ideal for developers who have a strong foundation in backend engineering and are eager to apply their skills in real-world, production-grade systems while working remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Backend Architecture & Development
- Design and implement High-Level Design (HLD) and Low-Level Design (LLD) for scalable backend solutions.
- Translate business requirements into clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
- Proactively anticipate and design for future scalability and performance needs.
- Build, optimize, and troubleshoot PostgreSQL databases for high performance.
- Design and document REST APIs using Swagger, and perform API testing.
Testing & Quality
- Write unit and integration tests using Jest to ensure code reliability.
- Maintain high code quality with proper use of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns.
DevOps & Deployment
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
- Manage and troubleshoot Linux servers for deployments and system maintenance.
Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to discuss progress, challenges, and feasibility.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure end-to-end delivery of features.
Eligibility & Skills Required
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, with familiarity in Bun.
- Expertise in PostgreSQL (schema design, query optimization, and complex queries).
- Solid understanding of HLD, LLD, and SOLID design principles.
- Proficiency with Git workflows and collaborative development.
- Experience with API development and documentation (Swagger, Postman).
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills on Linux systems.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Docker and containerization.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum development workflows.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work in a remote, collaborative environment.
- A proactive mindset with strong attention to code quality and scalability.
